Hop for Joy! A new Magnolia-licious DT sketch challenge

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 22.00

Good morning and happy March 1st....the month that has the first day of spring! YAY! LOL! We have a new DT sketch challenge for you from Magnolia-licious. This month, it's Jacque's turn to choose the challenge and she provided us with an awesome sketch! I wanted to use this adorable Tilda in a bunny suit that I got from Magnolia-licious. And true to my record, I have used yet another stamp that is not in stock in the store. UGH! I'm so sorry. But if you're interested, please be sure and email Diana. I also used #427 flowers from Lazy Summer Days collection. Both are colored with Copic markers and Tilda is cut out and popped up for dimension.

The fun and punny sentiment is from a set of Easter Greetings at The Cutting Cafe' called Happy Easter Inside and Out Greetings. The butterflies are cut using my Cricut, and I added a Prima rose I got from Stamp and Create and some cherry blossoms I got from Wild Orchid Crafts. Please be sure and visit Magnolia-licious Highlites to see the gorgeous cards the rest of my design team sisters have created. They are all so fabulously talented. And we're excited that we've got two new guest designers joining us as well! So a huge welcome to Mindy and Angela!

That's it for today! Thanks so much for stopping by to see me today, and hope to see you back again soon! Hugs!!

Chocolate Cupcake, Blog Hop, and Fabulous Blog Hop Candy

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 22.00

Wow, what a great Monday morning!

First - it is the monthly BBTB2 Design Team Blog Hop!  That means you probably arrived here from BBTB2.  The featured cut this week is one of the cupcakes from the Celebrations cartridge.  I cut my cupcake in chocolate brown paper with pink frosting and gem flower sprinkles.  I then added a birthday hat, a scalloped card front and a Happy Birthday tag made with Stampin' Up stamps and Spellbinders oval nesties to create this girly birthday card.  I topped the birthday hat off with a lovely prima flower and a larger gem flower and trimmed both the hat and the cupcake wrapper with Making Memories ribbon

In addition to the blog hop, we have a lot going on at BBTB2.  BBTB2 has a blog hop give away which is being sponsored by Everyday Cricut (formerly known as Holiday with the Cricut).  You can win the Sweethearts cartridge and package of SEI (Happy Day) scrap paper.  All you have to do to be eligible to win is leave a comment on BBTB2 blog AND sign up to follow the BBTB2 blog.  How easy is that?

I too have a fabulous blog hop give away/blog candy.  Custom Crops is sponsoring me this week with a $25.00 gift voucher for their store.  Just leave a comment below and I will select a winner for the gift voucher on Thursday, March 4th.  Thank you so much Custom Crops for sponsoring my prize this month!

After you leave your comment below you (because YOU KNOW you want the $25.00 gift voucher) you will continue on the BBTB2 design team blog hop.  Your next stop is at Lori's blog.  Lori is a very talented designer and I know you are going to love what she has made to share.  Happy Hopping!!

Out of Order for the Week

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 19.29

I needed a big sign hanging on over my shoulders this week which read: "OUT OF ORDER".  No that is not a Robert's Rules of Order reference, but rather the state of my existance.  I had a rather unpleasant stomach virus.  I finally turned the corner yesterday and was feeling better, that is until dinner tonight.  I think I over estimated my ability to handle "real food".

I was on the BRAT diet for a few days, but last night I decided I could have a light meal.  The light meal went so well that I over reached tonight.  Now my stomach is not happy with me, nor I with it!

I really am sharing so that you might understand where I have been this week.  I will return early, early Monday morning with my BBTB2 project, AND the blog hop, AND a nice sponsored prize.  So visit me again on Monday and in the meantime, try to avoid the germs that are floating about this winter!

Not wanting to post an "empty" entry, I am sharing photographs of Sheldon Church Ruins (originally named "Church of Prince William's Parish"), a magical place in the southern part of the state, near the ocean.  The church was burned down twice and was not rebuilt the last time.  The first time it was burned by the British in the Revolutionary War; the second time it was burned by Gen. Sherman's forces as they marched though during the Civil War.  Such a beautiful place to have such a sad history.

Happy Saturday everyone! Hope you're having a wonderful weekend. We had a rainy day today, which is wonderful. I love rainy days. Now please understand that I also live Reno, which is high altitude desert. So we just don't get rainy days. We get good snowy days, but rain storms are far and few between. So when we get one, I love it. Ok, enough about the weather! :) Let's move on to this adorable duck and baby from Peggy Loves Vintage! This image is actually from the New Baby Volume 2 cd. Be sure and really look at the images on Peggy's CDs with an open mind. They can be used for so many different things. I cut the image from the front of a baby shower card, because I thought they'd make the most adorable card to celebrate Spring.

I printed out two of the images because I wanted to pop up Mama Duck, baby duck, and the top part of the umbrella. I just used some dimensional tape to pop them up. Hopefully you can see the dimension a little better in the picture below. Please visit Peggy's blog too. She's got a couple great images she's giving away right now. Please be sure and leave her some love and let her know which image you like best. She'd also love it if you'd link up your project you made.
I mounted this adorable duck and baby on a FABULOUS scalloped square from The Cutting Cafe'! I don't know if you've seen the new large scalloped square from Spellbinders, and I also know I don't have to tell you how spendy they are. You can get the Assorted Scalloped Set 1 file from The Cutting Cafe', which has quite a few different type of scallops on it, for a grand total of $5.99, and you can make it any size you want with the click of your mouse!!! Easy peasy! You can either use the wpc file to cut it out with a cutting machine, or you can use the pdf file and your scissors. I truly LOVE this file of scallops! I cut mine out with my Pazzle Inspiration which I got from Hallmark Scrapbook! Hallmark is one of my favorite stores to shop at on line. Jody and Brad are the most wonderful people! They have the best prices and service ever! I also used the Rain, Rain, Go Away file for the sentiment. Regina has been releasing lots of new files, so please be sure and check them out over at The Cutting Cafe'!!
Thanks so much for stopping to see me today, and hope to see you back again soon! Hugs!

Paris Hilton’s Cute Bob Hairstyles

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 12.30

Here we have some of the cutest and most stylish short Bob hairstyles worn by the fabulous Paris Hilton.

Paris Hilton is famous for many things and to be honest, her hair is not normally one of them. However, she seems to have followed a trend this time rather than tried to set one and has followed the likes of Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes by being the next celebrity starlet to be seen sporting the “Pob”

With the bob coming into its 100th year, more and more celebrities are influencing us with their take on the normal bob. With Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham bringing about the Pob, Rihanna bringing about a new and fresh take on the bob and most other celeb’s having their unique versions sported it is no wonder that everyone is jumping on the less is more bandwagon.

This style of bob seems to be the latest thing in Tinseltown and with more celebrities seen sporting such a hairstyle, it has had women from all corners of the globe rushing to the hairdressers to recreate the look. I wonder how many women will now be asking for the “Parish” rather than the “Victoria?”

Rihanna’s Best Short Haircuts

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 12.43

Are you trying to recreate one of Rihannas recent haircuts? Well, you are not the only one, in fact many people are asking their hairdressers “How to get Rihannas haircut?” It’s time for a little show and tell!

Rihannas short Hairstyles
The sexy bob that is angled to one side that is shorted at the back and longer at the front actually needs a lot more work than originally thought. It can be cut to be an even length bob on both sides and then arrange so that it appears asymmetrical but the best thing to do is have it cut like this if you want the full on Rihanna effect.

Chemical relaxers are normally used with hair that isn’t already dead straight and this is best achieved in the hairdressers to reduce the risk of burnt scalps. Once this is completed, straightening the hair is necessary to give it that poker straight look that has become reminiscent of the young singers hairstyle. The hair is then cut while it is straight to give the best results.

La faute a Voltaire!

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 02.43

Yes blame it all on him. Do it. It's his fault. I am feeling not so well. I feel like beaten up. There is something coming and I do not know what. My horoscope says, that I am in a thoughtful mood today. Aparently, this sucks! I'd rather switch the constant brainstorm off and smile a bit more.

I watched a French movie yesterday. The international title of it : " It's Voltaire's fault" ( orig. La faute a Voltaire). A Fantastic, beautiful movie. In every aspect. I mostly liked the brilliant cast. This kind of movies are the reason why I prefer the good old French cinema.

Let me share an older review from the New York Times :

MOVIE REVIEW

La Faute a Voltaire (2000)

FILM FESTIVAL REVIEW; Égalité Is Not Always for Everyone

In the first scenes of ''La Faute à Voltaire,'' Jallel, a young man from Tunisia who has come to France illegally, is coached by a pair of uncles for his interview with an immigration officer. ''Tell them you're Algerian,'' they advise, and urge him to play to the image of France as a beacon of liberty, fraternity and equality, ''the home of Voltaire and all that.''

''They think they invented liberty,'' says one uncle with more than a hint of sarcasm. ''They love human rights.''

Well, they do and they don't. After lying his way through the interview (during which he sits under a poster printed with the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Man), Jallel is given a temporary visa and finds his way to a homeless shelter. And as Abdel Kechiche's tender film follows Jallel through his daily life in Paris, it expresses its own quiet commitment to the protection of individual dignity and human fraternity.

This is not in the sociological sense a movie about the condition of immigrants in France, but something much more strange and valuable. It's not about sociology but about life, more concerned with telling a story than making a point. There is a point, though, which is that political ideals are embodied not by the impersonal and bureaucratic state (which turns them into rules and procedures), but by people. The film ends with a moment of perfunctory legal cruelty that stands in stark contrast to the warm sense of comradeship that has come before.

Jallel (Sami Bouajila) has a handsome sensitive face and a gentle unassuming manner that draws people to him. At the shelter he falls in with a genial supportive band of outsiders led by a garrulous Breton named Franck (Bruno Lochet).

And one night at a cafe he meets Nassera (Aure Atika), a half-Tunisian waitress and single mother. Their volatile relationship dominates the first half of the film, which ends with Jallel's confinement in a mental hospital.

There he meets Lucie (Elodie Bouchez), who trades sexual favors with the other patients for small sums of money, more out of compulsion than the need for money. Her fragility awakens a protective impulse in Jallel, and once they're discharged from the hospital, she clings to him, sometimes annoying his friends from the shelter.

''La Faute à Voltaire,'' which will be shown tonight and tomorrow in the New Directors New Films festival, is enriched by Mr. Kechiche's discreet and sensitive regard for the emotions of his characters and by the unaffected naturalism of the cast.

The film feels a little too long, and in the second half Jallel's genuine chivalry blurs some of the harder, more interesting edges of his personality. But Mr. Kechiche has a fine and unusual instinct for ordinary beauty, and he introduces us to people we are sorry to leave behind

Fifty State Paper Doll Swap

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 23.25

I finally finished the paper dolls for the 50 State Paper Doll Swap I joined on the Cricut message board.  Someone kick me the next time I sign up for a swap that does not pre-list the conditions!

I had to make 50 paper dolls, 25 each from two states, Georgia and South Carolina.  We were supposed to make the dolls four inches tall and include accessories.

I made this cute beach scene to represent South Carolina - We do have a lot of fabulous beaches!  My accessories include a Palmetto Palm tree, the state tree, with a tag bearing the state tourism motto.

For Georgia I had a brain block.  I could only think of Georgia peaches.  So... I made peach farmers.

The baskets were a bit more time consuming than I had planned.  I added a wheelbarrow as an accessory, with the title, Georgia - The Peach State.

I cut a fill sheet of the peaches at .70 inches.  I used a copic marker and colored the stems and leaves before removing the peaches from the mat.

I will put my swaps in the mail tomorrow and hopefully they will get to Jen by Thursday.

Circus Birthday Wishes

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 08.38

I am a bit late posting my BBTB2 project today.  I usually write my post before going to bed on Sunday evening and set the blog to post in the middle of the night.  Last night I was too tired to write.  I spend much of Sunday evening working on 50 paper dolls for a message board swap (more on this tomorrow).

So on to my BBTB2 project.  The challenge cut of the week is the elephant from the Everyday Paper Doll cartridge.  The elephant is really cute and I have been told that the trunk is extended in a "lucky" pose.  I used the elephant to make a birthday card for my nephew, Carter, who will be two later this spring.

I added two train cars from EDPD as well as a scalloped border from Accents Essentials.  I wanted the card to be fun and bright - but I may have gone too far.  The Happy Birthday mini stamp is from a Dacie's set and was cut out with oval nesties.  All in all, not my best work, but I still love this cute elephant!
