Darn! That article indeed wowed me. Not only what it says, but also (and that is a Good Thing�) the way it says it. The writing style really sucks you in the article. Of course, the products it 'promises' do help to raise the interest meter.

H.264 isn't really that much data.
The Wildlife 720p HD stream from Apple is less than 3000 kbits/sec. For comparison, the Pixlet demo is like 27 mbits/sec. A 1080p h.264 stream is less than 10 mbits/sec.
So with those numbers, a 720p stream with 5.1 audio should easily stream over even a 10 mbit network device. So I can easily see this working over 802.11g.
Now the only issue is what they are going to put in the device to decode the streams with. Forward compatibility with future codecs would be nice.

No. it's still using more than one core. More likely because of the speed limitation of the hard drive writing the mp4 file.I know this sounds silly but how do you monitor processor usage from a process via Activity Monitor? (I have the %CPU column up but is there a way to get more detailed information?) I have the Developer Tools installed too. I'm not a developer but well...my work requires me to have them installed anyways.

do you dial numbers every time you use your phone? I have a samsung t809, and i don't slide it down most of the time, unless i want to answer it that way. It's kinda fun, but it's not required to answer the phone.

That can be viewed another way. Apple is too cheap to bother risking anything that is not a sure bet.

Apple takes some serious risks. How else do they move the entire industry in new directions?
iPhone. iPad. Both massive risks. Both were dismissed by major industry players. The iPad especially was dismissed by a lot of folks on MR. Vertical business model in an industry where everyone in in a race to the bottom and where some version of Windows dominates on computers. Big risk. Completely ditching OS 9 overnight and moving to OS X. Big risk as well. Apple is really the only one on the block that bothers to try new things.

Am I the only one who thinks Acer is right and they are not worried nor expect the iPad to do little to no damage to their netbook market.
The iPad is basicly nothing more then a iPod touch with a bigger screen. Yes the bigger screen offers some extras stuff but still you suffer the same limitition of the iPhone/iPod Touch OS and are trapped in apple's sand box.
The iPad is not going to replace a traveling computer because it is just way to limited. It has piss poor way of connecting to USB/SD card. You are still required to carry a dedicated keyboard if you want to get much work done that way and so on.
The Netbook on the other had is a great for business travelers. It is a full flege computer. Yeah it has a small screen but it is the same size a the iPad and a full size keyboard and more powerful OS.
iPad is a consumer level devices. Netbook is a bussiness/Enterprise level device. That is 2 very different markets. The Netbook is not designed to replace a deticated desktop/Main laptop neither is the iPad. Netbooks are designed to make traveling with a computer a hell of a lot nicer.

Checking Email-- I give that to the iPad.

Very sad. Someone lost their life over something so trivial. And sad that the guard has to live with knowing he took a life. :(

Curious that everyone is clamoring for a thunderbolt-enabled machine, but there isn't a single thunderbolt drive available on the market.
I guess some people just need to feel like they have new stuff even if it's totally pointless.
Sandy Bridge its way more faster, and having the thunderbolt available will be a matter of time for external HDD or cases. Either way the thunderbolt can be used for a LCD so I really don't see your point.

HD is not going to happen, at least not next tuesday.I can't see Steve releasing anything but HD if it's meant to be viewed on a big screen. If there isn't a new 48-inch screen or a way to get the movies to a Hi-Def television I would then venture to guess they'll keep the resolution the same as it is currently :cool:

I assume the screen would be a touch screen. I would hate to start dialing numbers using the click wheel.

I am in San Diego and first heard the reports early in the am. All i can say is at least this was an armed guard.. I have not heard but I would not be shocked to hear that this garud was in fact a "rent a cop" http://www.offdutyofficers.com/

I don’t much care about this battle either way—I can see why Apple wants to defend the term they popularized for the ecosystem they were first to build. And I can see why they might lose. Either way won’t help or hurt any of the parties involved that much. (The Amazon Mobile Market could survive just fine, if it’s good; and a name alone won’t make any other mobile software platform come close to touching iOS!)

I loved my G5 and I might well buy another iMac when I upgrade from the Mini I have now. A Mac Pro would be nice too, but we'll see. Anyways, the iMac is not the "most powerful desktop" in the world and no one gives a damn: it's an awesome machine regardless. So please, honestly, just drop it. What you said was false and still is. It's ok. Everyone makes mistakes. But drop it. It's starting to annoy me very seriously and I'd be surprised if I was the only one.
And I don't see what your personal attacks on some fine folks here are adding to the discussion. Along with opinions, AidenShaw - among others - brings a lot of technical expertise and hard facts to the table. I, for one, value that greatly, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
