Katrina Kaif’s new desi avatar makes her almost unrecognizable.
Her Amrapali-style costume replete with traditional jewels, classical dance steps along with her traditional Indian pose is a far cry from her look in her last film New York. De Dhana Dhan stars her lucky charm Akshay Kumar and is a romantic comedy shot in Singapore and Mumbai at a budget of Rs 60 crores.
This film brings back the team of Akshay, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, and director Priyadarshan together after eight years. The story is about two friends, Akshay and Sunil, who are in search of big money to prove a point to their girlfriends, Katrina and Sameera. Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif are coming together for the fifth time.
Katrina’s desi tadka will surely be a treat to watch when the film releases in November.
Katrina Kaif is riding high on the wave of success. She is in a really good place right now as New York has been a huge success; she has wrapped up shooting for De Dana Dan and is all set to celebrate her 25th birthday on July 16. We caught up with the actress before she flew to London to be with her family.
She wasn’t an exception to the rule and endured several injuries. The leading lady said, “I have gotten hurt four times. I hurt my leg and got sunburns, I hurt my back really badly in the rain song when the saree shrunk and yesterday I hurt my neck. My back is still hurting but it’s just a strain. The pain will go away and I am just grateful that we have finished shooting for the film. I am glad it’s all over and I am alive in one piece.”
Katrina is riding high on the success of New York. “I am ecstatic with the success of New York. I have said it several times but it’s a really special film to me. The story was amazing and I connected to it instantly. Our director Kabir Khan is one of the nicest people to know and I wanted the film to work for him also. The success of a film like New York speaks volumes about the tastes of audiences. I am so glad it is doing well,” she said, flashing her million-watt smile.
Has she seen Kambakkht Ishq, which claims to have the ‘biggest opening ever.’ “I saw Kambakkht Ishq at the preview. I am a fan of Kareena. She is a talented actress and one of the best in the country. Akshay is an entertainer like Jim Carrey and Steve Martin. You go have a good laugh because it’s fun,” she replied.
And lastly, what are her birthday plans? “I don’t have any plans for my birthday. I am going to be with my six sisters and whatever the seven of us decide, we will do that,” she signed off.
Akshay Kumar made a meal out of a skiing shot when he tried, and failed, before he finally succeeded carting Katrina around in the water.Action man Akshay Kumar has been failing at a water sport that Katrina has been excelling at.
Shooting for De Dhana Dhan in Singapore, the star says he was "given half an hour to practice" a scene where he was to water ski. "Surprise, surprise! Water skiing ain't that easy," the star writes in his blog. He thought at first that "it looks so graceful and easy and killer cool to do, you know, anyone could do it." So, Akshay "jumped on my board ready to fly off and even produce some somersaults off the ramps, but HELL, NO... I fell off this thing quicker than anyone could say 'Singh is Kinng'. It was more like Singh the belly flop king."
But the sporty actor wasn't embarrassed. "When my head came out of water, I had to force myself to stop laughing and get back on the board before Priyanji saw his hero’s face down and bum up in the water ;o)".
And then, of course, he triumphed. "So back up I go. Needless to say, it took a few more times than first expected to nail this thing, but by lunch, not only had I cracked it, I was carrying the incredibly beautiful and brave Katrina Kaif on my back whilst whizzing round on this thing like it was second nature." "And that’s when you know you’re a good actor, when you’re made to do something that technically scares the crap out of you, but you smile for the shot and make everyone think 'AHH, they’re so in love', then the minute you hit the water at mega speed, there’s no smile, just a battered body that’s praying for the shot to be OK'd."
He added that Kats "did extremely well" and that "not many heroines I know would have tried and succeeded" as her.
Other than praise Katrina, Akshay also had warm words for Hugh Jackman, whose movie X-Men Wolverine is just out. Akshay caught it in Singapore and said: "Amazing movie! Haven't seen that kind of cinema since Batman - The Dark Knight… Hugh Jackman is definitely one of the most multi-talented actors I've ever seen. Did you see him hosting the Oscars? I've never known a Hollywood actor apart from Will Smith that could sing/ dance/ joke/ be merry/ with the nut-cracking sarcasm of a gentleman. He really does deserve the Best Actor; I can't help, but respect him…"
