Katrina heats up Salman's fashion show

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 12.28

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif might not be a couple anymore, but she's still there for him when it comes to supporting his charity. Kat joined B'wood's hottest women - Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu - on the ramp for Salman's Being Human show at HDIL Couture Week.

Also on the ramp were Karisma Kapur Priety Zinta and Sushmita Sen. All the stars wore Manish Malhotra's creations and diamond jewllery by Forevermark.

The theme for the show was 'Fashion Throughout the Ages', with each era of the Hindi film industry defined.
Before the actresses walked down the ramp, a short audio-visual was screened on the particular period and dances were performed to highlight the entertainment of that time.

For instance, the 1930s were defined by tap dance and the 1940s by qawallis.

The first to hit the runway was Priety Zinta, dressed in black, representing 1920s elegance and glamour.

She was followed by Katrina Kaif. Dressed in a long red gown, she depicted the 1930s, known for "Fearless" Nadia for her stunts in films like 'Hunterwali'.

Then, Rani Mukherji walked the ramp in a black velvet choli and white lehenga, bringing alive the elegance of the 1940s.

To recreate the flirtatious 1950s, Bipasha Basu walked the ramp in a short black outfit looking her sexiest best.

The swinging 1960s was dominated by Shammi Kapoor and the rock and roll culture and who better than his grand niece Karisma Kapoor to do justice to it! Draped in a red sari, the actress, who has taken a break from work, oozed glamour and poise.

Then came Sushmita Sen, who depicted the flamboyance and freedom of women in 1970s, dressed in multi-coloured kaftan top and golden mini skirt.

After this it was Priyanka Chopra's turn to wow. Dressed in a white baby-doll dress, she represented the silver screen's glam girls of the 1980s.

After that was Kareena Kapoor, in a smart and sexy black power suit, walking the ramp depicting the women of the 1990s.

Finally, there was Salman, who wore red trousers and a black trench coat with glares and walked the ramp with a smile.

Last year it was all guys for Salman as he had teamed up with stars like Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt for the show.

This year while he had Katrina on the show, the two never got too close to each other. Preity Zinta was the chosen buffer, and we've got to say - she did a good job!

Sushmita's Durga Puja plans revealed

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 13.27

Sushmita Sen plans to spend the Durga Puja festival next month in her hometown Kolkata along with her adopted kids to give them an idea about the biggest autumnal celebration in her state.

"This time I have plans to spend my Durga Puja in Kolkata as this is my hometown. I want my kids (adopted) to know what Durga Puja really is," said Sushmita, who was in Kolkata to walk the ramp at a fashion show said.

The four-day Durga Puja celebrations begin October 14.

The 34-year-old actress, born in a Bengali family, has two adopted daughters - Renee and Alisah.

She adopted Renee in 2000, and in January this year she adopted a three-month-old girl, and named her Alisah.

Sushmita said she wanted to have biological kids also.

"I will surely adopt more kids and also want to have biological kids," the former Miss Universe said.

So when asked whether marriage was on the cards, the ever-smiling Sushmita replied: "I believe when the time comes it will surely happen. And I firmly believe that when I do get married it will be a perfect marriage."

In the past, the actress has dated actor Randeep Hooda and ad man Manav Menon.

Sushmita also spoke about her dream film project 'Rani Lakshmibai', and feels it will work out some day.

"The budget of the film is Rs.80 crore. But I was told to do it in Rs.30 crore, and I don't agree with it," she said.

"I don't believe in the rat race. Whatever movies I have done, I have done it with my heart," said Sushmita.

Sushmita recently walked the ramp as a showstopper for designers Shantanu and Nikhil at the sixth edition of the Seagram's Blenders Pride Fashion Tour in Kolkata.

Sushmita says she will get married

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 14.44

Don't ask Sushmita Sen what kind of man she wants in her life! The star says she is tired of the question, but adds that she will get married for sure.

"Well, I will get married. It was just that I didn't feel like getting married at 23-24 which is considered to be the marriageable age," Sushmita, who's 34.

"And I am tired of answering what kind of a man I want in my life. I will show you the full sample whenever it happens," she added.

In the past, Sush has dated actor Randeep Hooda, ad man Manav Menon and also been linked with Bunty Sachdev and very recently with former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram, with whom she has supposedly broken off.

Professionally, Sushmita's back in the zone that made her famous in the first place. Her production company Tantra Entertainment was awarded the India franchise by the Miss Universe Organisation this year. But Ushoshi Sengupta who was selected by Tantra did not win the title for India.

Sushmita says she wasn't disappointed at all by the result. "We gave it our best shot and there was a lot of learning for us as well. I also went to the pageant after 16 years (Sushmita won the title in 1994) and a lot has changed in terms of format.

"So I had a look and understood the new things. This will help us in bringing the title back in the near future. Now, I feel like it is a challenge for me," she said.

Recently 'Slumdog Millionaire' actress Freida Pinto said Sushmita inspired her to act in the movies.

Commenting on that, Sush said: "When I saw my baba (father) in tears when Rakesh Sharma went up in space and told Indira Gandhi 'Saare Jahan Se Aacha Hindustan Hamaara', I asked him for whom he was crying. He replied - he (Rakesh) is famous."

"At that time all I knew was that I had to be famous. It was my only ambition in life and I wanted people, who didn't even know me, to cry for me. So when people say such things about me, I feel life has come a full circle for me."

That's Sushmita's new baby!

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 13.09

The star brought three-month-old Alisah along to an event in Mumbai

Sushmita Sen became a proud mommy for the second time recently when she adopted Alisah. And we got our first look at the baby when the star brought her along for the crowning of the winners of the 'I Am Princess' initiative. Sush was at the Bal Bhavan charity for the event, and she showed off Alisah to everyone there. She even handed Alisah over to the kids at the charity so they could play with the baby.

Alisah's already a cutie at three months, and she looks like she loves the camera. Just look at the way she's totally unfazed and at home before the camera, must get it from her mom!

Sushmita already has another daughter, Renee, who was adopted in the year 2000. And now with Alisah, Sush's family portrait makes for an even more adorable picture.

Are Wasim Akram and Sushmita Sen a couple?

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 14.40

They've been out together in Mumbai a few times now

Is there a new Indo-Pak celeb love story on the cards? Rumours linking actress Sushmita Sen and former cricketer Wasim Akram have been flying around for a while now. Apparently, the two first met when they were hosts of a reality TV show some years ago. At the time, Wasim was happily married to Huma (who passed away last year).

It's only recently that Sushmita and Wasim have been spotted together in public. First they were seen at model Candice Pinto's birthday party, were they seemd to be having a lot of fun in each other's company. Wasim even put his face in a cut-out with a buffed body, to laughs from Sush.

Now, the couple have been seen together again. A few days ago, the two entered a popular club in Mumbai, and laughed and talked together until the place shut down at night. Mid-way through the evening, a few of Sushmita's friends joined the couple.

We'll be looking out for the two to see how their friendship progresses, and keep you posted on it.

Sushmita returns to Miss Universe

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 14.33

She’ll pick the Indian representative for the beauty contest in 2010

Former beauty queen-turned actress Sushmita Sen has taken up the task of selecting the Miss Universe 2010 representative from India through the ‘I AM She’ contest and she has tied up with an FM station for it. Sushmita herself won the Miss Universe crown in 1994. And now she has bought the franchise for selecting the Miss Universe India, which was earlier with the Times of India Group.

Sushmita said that through the contest they would select the next Miss Universe India, who will represent India at the global Miss Universe competition.

"'I AM She' will be the preliminary of the Miss Universe contest," Sushmita told reporters at the 92.7 BIG FM studio in Mumbai today (April 6).

Talking about her association with BIF FM, she said: "BIG FM is an important partner of 'I AM She'. They have the resources to reach across to people."

Sushmita feels that the ‘I AM She’ winner would be ensured of a better future.

"I believe that the winners of this contest would not only get glamorous prizes but they will also be awarded with scholarships," said Sushmita.

"It's (the Miss Universe title) definitely going to come back again. India has the most beautiful women in the world. The fact is we are beautiful inside-out and the whole world agrees to it," Sushmita said.

Dulha Mil Gaya - Movie Review

Diposting oleh alexandria joseph | 07.41

The recipe is simple and uncomplicated...
Take MY FAIR LADY.
Add DULHAN WAHI JO PIYA MAN BHAAYE.
Spray NASEEB APNA APNA.
Sprinkle DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE and RAB NE BANA DI JODI.
Hey presto, DULHA MIL GAYA is ready to serve.

In fact, MY FAIR LADY has been a hot favourite of Bollywood. Recall MAN PASAND [Dev Anand, Tina Munim] or HUM TERE AASHIQ HAIN [Jeetendra, Hema Malini]. Similarly, a number of storytellers have rehashed Rajshri's all-time hit DULHAN WAHI JO PIYA MAN BHAAYE [Prem Krishen, Rameshwari] in various avtaars, over the years.

DULHA MIL GAYA is a mix of the above-named films. Like they say in filmi lingo, it's old wine in new bottle. So what? How different can a love story be, since this genre has been done to death in Bollywood? Point noted, but the narrative ought to be engaging if it has to strike a chord and that's where DULHA MIL GAYA falters.

Merely assembling A-listers and filming the movie at panoramic locations isn't enough. The film ought to have meat and that's missing here.

Let me elaborate. Debutante director Mudassar Aziz, who has also penned the script, borrows from the past, going for the tried-and-tested stuff, but the narrative, already low on fuel, comes to a grinding halt by the time it reaches its finale.

Donsai [Fardeen Khan], a young commitment-phobic debonair, is petrified with terms like marriage and long-term relationships. Samarpreet [Ishita Sharma] is a quintessential Punjabi girl, for whom relationships are to be cherished.

Shimmer [Sushmita Sen] is a diva from the world of glamour for whom love and relationships aren't important in life as independence and success are. Pawan Raj Gandhi/PRG [Shah Rukh Khan] is a suave multi-millionaire whose heart still remains larger than his bank balance and for whom winning love is the only victory there is.

When paths cross for these four characters, they not only land up influencing each other with their outlook on relationships, but also get influenced themselves and learn a whole new meaning of the term.

Something that got ignited with D.D.L.J. continues to shimmer to this date. Our stories continue to travel from firangi land to the fields of Punjab. DULHA MIL GAYA too does that [initially], before MY FAIR LADY and RAB NE BANA DI JODI take over.

To give the credit where it's due, DULHA MIL GAYA has some interesting moments, but the problem is they are few and far between. One expects things to perk up when SRK's character is introduced [in the post-interval portions], but your hopes go crashing as nothing worthy of note occurs.

The writing has gaping flaws, which are difficult to absorb after a point. The girl travels all the way from Punjab to Trinidad and Tobago, but not once do her concerned parents call to enquire how she is. Strangely, even the girl doesn't feel the need to inform them. If that's not enough, Sushmita takes upon herself to tame Fardeen, giving you the impression that she thinks from her heart. But when it comes to her relationship with Shah Rukh, she behaves in a rather odd manner. SRK, on the other hand, seems completely besotted by her, even though she never reciprocates his feelings. Hence, her somersault in the end - just because Ishita has given her some bhashan - doesn't look convincing.

Mudassar Aziz's direction is a shade better than his writing. And that's not saying much. Given the fact that newer stories are being attempted in these fast-changing times and in view of the fact that he had some of the best talents on board, Mudassar should've seized the opportunity and told a refreshingly different and absorbing tale. But he doesn't. Sure, a few sequences are clever and smart, but that's not enough.

The music is of a mixed variety. 'Akela Dil' is groovy, while the title track is strictly okay. Cinematography is appealing.

Sushmita excels in a role that demands her to be hoity-toity. She enacts her part effortlessly. One wishes to see her more often on the big screen! Fardeen does a good job, especially towards the end when he's about to confess something vital to Ishita. Ishita delivers a sincere performance. It's a pity that a superstar like Shah Rukh is terribly wasted in an inconsequential role. It may not go down well with his fans.

Mohit Chadha has screen presence, but gets no scope. Johny Lever is wasted. Ditto for Tara Sharma. Suchitra Pillai and Howard Rosemeyer are passable. Parikshit Sahni, Bina Kak and Viveck Vaswani are as usual.

On the whole, DULHA MIL GAYA doesn't work!
