Bipasha wants National Award

Bipasha expects a National Award for her performance in her first bengali film Shob Charitro Kalponik

When Rituparno Ghosh wants an actor from Bollywood to do hatke stuff for him, they all come running. Be it Preity Zinta in The Last Lear, or Ash in Choker Bali, and everyone from Amitabh Bachchan to Abhishek Bachchan has worked with him for that rare creative outing of pure actor’s cinema.

So when Bipasha decided to drop the glam image for him, it wasn’t going to be easy. He has after all, the foul reputation of dubbing all his actors voices for their Bengali part by other more Bengali accented actors to give it a pronounced Kolkata city flavour.

Sources claim that the film, which did not get a nationwide release has barely had a chance to wow audience with its stunning performances by the lead actors Prosenjit and Bipasha Basu. Infact a review of the film goes to the extent of saying that it’s a pity that Bipasha’s voice has been dubbed.

Bipasha was upset when she learnt Ghosh was going to dub her voice and refused to promote the film, but when she heard that he is going to send the film for a National Award consideration, she melted. This was her big chance to earn an award most actors would kill for.

Shob Charitro Kalponik (All Characters are Imaginary), is the story of poet’s wife who finds herself caught up in his imaginary versus real world life miasma.

People have been comparing her towering performance to that of Shabana Azmi’s gravity in such roles. So much so that Bipasha is even going to dub in Bengali for a National Award copy. Her performance is being pitched for the best actress category.

All this natak was just not needed, had her Bengali accent been thick and in place. Eesh, koto gondogol kore chhe, bolun toh.
