Shahbaz Bhatti, the minister for minorities in the Pakistani government who was also a Catholic, was gunned down in his car and killed today. Mr. Bhatti had been a strong supporter of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman who has been sentenced to death for blasphemy. The Taliban claimed responsibility, saying in a note left at the scene that Mr. Bhatti had been killed for opposing Pakistan’s blasphemy law.
In other news, Col. Moamar Ghadafi said in a speech that he would fight to the last Libyan man and woman to prevent the fall of his regime. Next door in Tunisia a new refugee crisis is brewing, with several boatloads of fleeing Tunisians already headed for Lampedusa. The Italians have set up a refugee camp in Tunisia in hopes of preventing some of the displaced people from crossing the Mediterranean.
